Hot water help

Thank you for stopping by.

Hot water heating is the second biggest consumer of energy in your home. Consuming around 25% of your house hold energy. You should applaud your self for doing research before buying.

Right, Let’s get into it. Before buying your new HWU decide what is most important to you, ie purchasing cost, running costs, energy efficiency, Luxury, environment preservation … and so on.

Here are 3 ways to help you decide on your hot water needs.

  • For all you thrifty shoppers out there our recommendation is. Stick to what you have and replace it like for like. This will most likely be the cheapest option providing it still comply with regulations.
  • For you that like the never ending showers and are blessed with excess money- We recommend you buy a continues flow HWU. This option will almost give you never ending hot water. ?  And some savings on your gas bill.
  • The environment guardians, this honour comes at a price. Your only option is in our opinion a close couple sola HWU. I will explain in the next few lines whay I say this. A close couple sola HWU is a tank and panel system that predominantly sits on your roof. It works on the simple scientific fact that hot water rises. As the sun heats the water in the solar collectors, the increase in temperature causes the water to rise through an insulated copper pipe into the storage tank. To compliment this particular system one can have an electric or gas booster for those rainy overcast days.

With the above information I hope I have made your decision easy.  Pie chart below to show what sort of HWU are currently used in Australia at what percentage.

We did not mention heat pump type hot water systems in this article because they are complicated HWU and you should really do research before committing to one.

Over all the cheapest HWU to own and run in our opinion is a Bosch 10p. The good old faithful. Cheap to buy cheap to maintain.
