Renewed warning about rogue plumber (Hajir Mobin / Emergency Plumbing and Gas Services / Danny’s Plumbing and Gas Services)

A Kinross man who was the subject of a joint public warning by the Building Commission, EnergySafetyand Consumer Protection in August has registered a new business name, prompting a renewed call for consumers to be vigilant when engaging anyone to carry out plumbing or gasfitting services.

Last month’s warning stated that Hajir Mobin, trading as Danny’s Plumbing and Gas Services, may be continuing to carry out illegal plumbing and gasfitting work despite being successfully prosecuted three times. The public was warned that Mr Mobin does not hold the plumbing licence and gasfitting permit required to carry out plumbing or gasfitting work in Western Australia.

The public is now warned that Mr Mobin has registered a new business name, Emergency Plumbing and Gas Services, and is advertising his services on the website www.emergency-plumber-perth.net.au.

The previous warning about Mr Mobin can be viewed on the Department of Commerce website at: www.commerce.wa.gov.au/announcements/public-warned-illegal-plumbing-and-gasfitting-operator.

“That this illegal operator may be continuing to flout the laws despite being successfully prosecuted by the Department of Commerce three times is of great concern to us and we ask consumers to do their homework before engaging anyone to carry out plumbing and gasfitting services,” Building Commission Acting Executive Director Sandy Randall said.

Before engaging the services of a plumber, consumers should conduct a free online licence search on the Building Commission website or phone 1300 489 099. If gasfitting work is required, they should check the person has a gasfitting permit on the EnergySafety website. The websites can be accessed at www.commerce.wa.gov.au.

Anyone with information or engaged in any dealings with Mr Mobin in relation to plumbing and gasfitting work is asked to contact the relevant authority. For plumbing matters, contact the Building Commission on 1300 489 099 or bcinfo@commerce.wa.gov.au. For gasfitting matters, contact EnergySafety on 6251 1900 or energysafety@commerce.wa.gov.au. Matters relating to Australian Consumer Law can be reported to Consumer Protection on 1300 304 054 or consumer@commerce.wa.gov.au.
